In 2017 I continued my frenzy of making tote bags. In February, I led a group of about 12 women at my church trinityprinceton.org to create 35 totebags filled with toiletries and notebooks which were donated to a local Women's shelter called Womanspace. My love of making tote bags led to other types of bag making and basically anything that was not a quilt but was functional and fabric-based.
I had a lot of colorful batik fabric scraps so made this bright quilt by randomly placing pinwheels and squares mixed with white squares and rectangles. My daughter Elizabeth is the teacher in a classroom of 3 and 4 years olds who have severe disabilities, mostly autism. They often fall asleep by the afternoon and now Lizzy can cover them up with this quilt while they sleep.
In this photo, the binding wasn't completely finished.I gave the quilt to Lizzy for Christmas 2016. I hadn't finished hand sewing the binding until the new year so technically it was my first quilt of 2017.
