I wanted to try some more applique after making the Trinity Strings banner. I was inspired by a pot of yellow tulips, so I chose one tulip and drew it onto thin cardboard and then traced it onto fusible applique paper. The tricky part was to figure out how to use 3 different green fabrics in order to create darks and lights. Also, the image is not symmetrical so I had to turn it upside down.
I made my tulip pink because I had two different pink fabrics that would make a nice contrast.
