I made this tote bag for my cello student, Leel. I used heavyweight interfacing on the print fabric and an up-cycled tablecloth for the lining.
I cut the print and the lining 18 inches wide and 17 inches high. This makes a large tote bag and the heavyweight interfacing makes it sturdy.
To make longish straps cut a black denim strip 3 1/2 by 26 and a print fabric strip the same size. Sew together lengthwise. No need for batting inside the strip because the denim was heavyweight which provided enough sturdiness for the straps. Fold black denim in 3/4 inch and fold print fabric in about 2 inches. Then fold almost in half so that black is showing on each side.
